Duration: 4 Days

 

This hands-on training course focuses on performing scripted installations of ESX servers, Service Console security, monitoring of ESX servers, VMware HA, Distributed Resource Scheduling (DRS), VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB) and fault analysis. Upon completion of this course, you can take the examination to become a VMware Certified Professional. This course builds on the VMware Infrastructure 3: Install and Configure course, and requires that the student has already taken the VMware Infrastructure 3: Install and Configure course or has comparable real-world experience and has passed the course pre-test.

 

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • Perform scripted installations
  • Learn specific commands used to administer an ESX server
  • Understand and configure security on the Service Console
  • Monitor Virtual Infrastructure
  • Configure and implement VMware HA, DRS and VCB
  • Perform fault analysis in Virtual Infrastructure

Minimum of 10 students, Maximum of 12 students

Target Audience

Systems administrators and systems integrators experienced with Virtual Infrastructure 3 who are responsible for scaling their organization’s deployment of VMware technology.

Prerequisites

Required:

  • Achievement of a passing score on a short on-line pre-test
  • Comfort with fundamental Linux commands (such as ls and cp) and a Linux text editor

Recommended:

Completion of VMware Infrastructure 3: Install and Configure or VMware Infrastructure 3: What’s New (In conjunction with Virtual Infrastructure w/ESX Server and VirtualCenter), or equivalent experience with VMware Infrastructure 3

    • Secure physical infrastructure
    • Identify how virtual infrastructure mitigates common security vulnerabilities
    • Secure access to storage, networks and Service Console
  • Module 3: CPU and Memory Resource Allocation
    • Create DRS enabled clusters
    • Manage resource pools
    • Interpret performance graphs
  • Module 4: Data Protection and High Availability
    • Perform backup using VMware Consolidated Backup
    • Enable a VMware HA cluster
  • Module 5: Fault Analysis Tools and Methodology
    • Analyze and resolve problems in Virtual Infrastructure 3
